During this scene, the camera angles give us an illusion of the space being represented. The director shows the shark, Jaws, as an up close shot multiple times throughout the scene. This not only makes the audience’s perception of how far the shark is from Brody become a little obscured. But it also makes the viewer feel as though the shark is much larger in physical size than it actually is. Not only do we have these things to contend with, but going along with the topic of space, we also have to decide what we believe to be the directionality of the shark. Seeing the shark in an up close shot, makes us believe that the shark is coming towards Brody. However, we can not be for sure of this until we see another angle.
The director also used the time of the scene to affect how viewer’s would view this film. We can notice that as the shark came closer to Brody, the music was getting progressively faster and luder. We can also notice that the music playing in the background had a tonal center. As we listen, we can hear that the higher instruments within the orchestra are playing a sort of peppy beat while the lower instruments are playing the well known theme song for Jaws.
The Make Art portion of this article shows us the author’s definition of art. It also shows us that in order to make art we must be willing to take the risk of someone not liking it or getting laughed at because of it. During the Acknowledging The Lizard portion of the article, the author tells us that this concept basically is the little voice inside telling us that we will not succeed. He shows us that this lizard is keeping us people as artists from branching out and finding our own creativity in the world. During the failure portion of the article, the author tells us that it is almost necessary for us as artists to be willing to fail. Throughout the years, it has been shown that failure leads to success in the long run. With this failure, we are fighting the resistance and succeeding.
The three terms that I summarized in my last paragraph can be related to this blog in many different ways. All seven of these terms that are talked about in that article are connected in one way or another. This being said, the three that I chose to summarize were the three items that I thought connected the most. These three items go hand in hand in with one another perfectly.
The section titled make art can definitely be directly related to these blog assignments. I feel like these blogs give us the opportunity to be as creative as we would like and be as artistic as possible. More specifically, the making of art can be related to our first blog post that asked us to create a super hero and villain and deconstruct them to the most basic of forms. This assignment really forced us to be creative in a couple of different ways. One way in which we had to be creative was in the creation of the super hero and villain. Another way that we had to be creative was when we had to deconstruct these two characters. This challenged us to think outside of the box and make art.
The section titled acknowledge the lizard also related to these blogs for me at least. I can not speak for my other classmates, but the entire time that I was writing these blogs, I had that voice telling me that I was doing something wrong. This is what is referred to as the lizard. My lizard was definitely trying to keep me from finishing this blog. It took all of my creative energies to defeat this terrible beast.
The section titled fail did not relate to these blogs per say. We were not meant to fail at these blogs for this is the only chance we get before receiving our grade. However, it can directly relate to this class in a way. We do multiple presentations throughout this quarter in this class. This being said, we may fail at one of these presentations however that failure will push us to a point where we can succeed at the following presentations during the quarter.
The bottom line is this: these blogs are a great way to use our out of class time. They really give us a prime opportunity to be creative which is what this class is all about. All in all, I think that these blogs are a great assignment and it is definitely not a waste of our time at all.
In the story titled “There were only 14 remaining red wolves in the wild in the 1970s” there is a pack of wolves which are placed in captivity in order to keep them from going extinct. Upon releasing the offspring into the wild, they realized that they had lost their howl. One wolf, Mumon, decides to go out to find his howl in order to lead the pack. He basically had to lose the old Mumon in order to find the new Mumon and be a leader. Flaum made a point that we must lose ourselves to find our howl.
“When you wanna succeed as bad as you wanna breath, then you will be successful” this quote has been my inspiration in everything I do since the day that I heard it. This entire story of the young man who goes to an old man for advice is a very inspiring story. It really teaches that if you want to be successful in anything, you have to want it as bad as you want to breath. This being said, you basically have to need to be successful if you want to make it somewhere in life. This speaks to me as a creative person because I want to be creative in the sense of making music after I graduate college. As a matter of fact, I feel a need to succeed in making awesome music upon leaving the college scene and entering the real world.
This particular video not only has a great dialogue behind it, but it also has many good camera shots and video footage being played that goes perfectly with the dialogue being heard. This video footage makes it much easier to be moved by the dialogue because it gives the audience an opportunity to combine the two senses of sight as well as hearing. Using both senses, we get a much better understanding of the message being conveyed than if we were to just simply hear the dialogue or see the video footage.
As I said earlier, I want to be as creative as possible with my creation of music. This is why I am pursuing the career of a music producer and will hopefully find a band so that I can play music as well. This being my goal, I realize that I must need this just as bad if not more than my need to breathe every day. I think about this as my goal on a daily basis as well as think about what I must do now in order to achieve this goal in later years. As crazy as it may sound, I have multiple pictures of what I would like my lifestyle to be like in ten or fifteen years and I look at them every day. Every time that I see these pictures, I consider what I need to do in that day in order to reach this goal of a lifestyle. On most days, I just need to learn new things about the industry of music and learn something new about the equipment and what not. In a way, my need to look at these pictures and think about the future is just like my need to breath every day.
In conclusion, I would like to invite you to watch this video multiple times and really consider the message that is being brought fourth. I challenge everyone who reads this to really think about the future and what success means to you at this point in your life. If we are not careful, we will put some things off until tomorrow that is crucial to our success today! Everyone is creative in their own way, and today I challenge you to find your creative side and succeed in what you love.
Green represents my hero because his physical color is green. Not only that, but his personality represents somewhat of a monster at times. When most people think of monsters, they are reminded of the color green. This being said, the two are indirectly related to one another in the human mind. Also the first thing that people recollect when thinking of my hero is the color green. However, most people connect my hero to the color green due to physical appearance yet there is so much more about him that goes with green. The comic book which this character is drawn makes everything associated with him some shade of green.
I chose this picture to represent the lighting of my super hero because he has a dark image yet always ends up doing things for the greater good. This picture shows what looks like a fairly large figure with a bright light behind it. My super hero is a large person who does good things. I think of the light behind this dark character as being the good that could come from such a dark character. Also, in some instances, his goodness is somewhat hidden by the darkness of his stature. This picture also depicts this with the light coming from behind the dark being.
A picture of a twisted circle represents my character perfectly.First, I chose a circle because when we see this character, he is pressing his fists into the ground which makes his figure take a sort of circular shape. Also, I chose for this circle to be twisted because his personality is a bit twisted as well as his actions. His personality traits consist of both good and bad things. He is a good being at heart yet his actions say otherwise. As a person, he does good things in the long run. This being said, he makes a large mess of things while doing so.
Antagonist- Dr. Redman
I chose a mixture of red and black to represent my antagonist because his physical appearance is red. You can most likely guess this by his name. When I think of evil doings, I think of Satan and Hell. I then put with the color red. This being said, Dr. Redman has red skin with dark black eyes and he wears a black lab coat with red flames on it. His appearance represents his evilness in every way possible. The red and black color style has been used for to represent evil for as long as I can remember which is why I gave him these attributes.
The lighting in this photo shows my antagonist perfectly. My antagonist is the type of person who on the outside is a nice, happy man, yet he is the antagonist for my purposes. He may come across as a nice guy, but it is not until once you get to know him that he turns on you. He has a bright outskirt with deep, dark innards. The bright light in the photo represents his outer shell while the darkness in the background of the image shows his true being. He is the type of character who was once a protagonist but was turned by a series of unfortunate events.
I chose this picture to represent my antagonist’s shape because before he was a super villain, he was a loser, otherwise known as a square. Also, if you look at this picture, you can see that the square in the picture appears to be twisted. This represents my antagonist because everything that he does as a super villain is twisted in different ways. This is also a good representation because he twists people’s words in order to lure them into his trap. This image captures everything about my antagonist; from before he became a super villain to the present day.
