Blog #2

Before reading this post, please follow this link to read Jonathon Flaum's "Finding Your Howl."

In the story titled “There were only 14 remaining red wolves in the wild in the 1970s” there is a pack of wolves which are placed in captivity in order to keep them from going extinct.  Upon releasing the offspring into the wild, they realized that they had lost their howl.  One wolf, Mumon, decides to go out to find his howl in order to lead the pack.  He basically had to lose the old Mumon in order to find the new Mumon and be a leader.  Flaum made a point that we must lose ourselves to find our howl.

“When you wanna succeed as bad as you wanna breath, then you will be successful” this quote has been my inspiration in everything I do since the day that I heard it.  This entire story of the young man who goes to an old man for advice is a very inspiring story.  It really teaches that if you want to be successful in anything, you have to want it as bad as you want to breath.  This being said, you basically have to need to be successful if you want to make it somewhere in life.  This speaks to me as a creative person because I want to be creative in the sense of making music after I graduate college.  As a matter of fact, I feel a need to succeed in making awesome music upon leaving the college scene and entering the real world.

This particular video not only has a great dialogue behind it, but it also has many good camera shots and video footage being played that goes perfectly with the dialogue being heard.  This video footage makes it much easier to be moved by the dialogue because it gives the audience an opportunity to combine the two senses of sight as well as hearing.  Using both senses, we get a much better understanding of the message being conveyed than if we were to just simply hear the dialogue or see the video footage.

As I said earlier, I want to be as creative as possible with my creation of music.  This is why I am pursuing the career of a music producer and will hopefully find a band so that I can play music as well.  This being my goal, I realize that I must need this just as bad if not more than my need to breathe every day.  I think about this as my goal on a daily basis as well as think about what I must do now in order to achieve this goal in later years.  As crazy as it may sound, I have multiple pictures of what I would like my lifestyle to be like in ten or fifteen years and I look at them every day.  Every time that I see these pictures, I consider what I need to do in that day in order to reach this goal of a lifestyle.  On most days, I just need to learn new things about the industry of music and learn something new about the equipment and what not.  In a way, my need to look at these pictures and think about the future is just like my need to breath every day.

In conclusion, I would like to invite you to watch this video multiple times and really consider the message that is being brought fourth.  I challenge everyone who reads this to really think about the future and what success means to you at this point in your life.  If we are not careful, we will put some things off until tomorrow that is crucial to our success today!  Everyone is creative in their own way, and today I challenge you to find your creative side and succeed in what you love.
